“A BLUE DEEPER THAN INDIGO ITSELF “

The new day belongs to youth,

fresh like fields of green barley

   sparkling with morning frost.

Though already in March,

the predawn air at the foot of Mount

   it was bitterly cold.

Six thousand young’uns

   of the Earth

gathered joyfully

in response to the sudden call,

which came like a flash of lightning.

Their breath formed white plumes

and the sound of their footsteps

over the still sleeping earth

echoed in the forest before daybreak.

Young girls with rosy cheeks.

Young boys in their school uniforms.

Proud, confident youth

with nothing to shield them from

   the cold.

In the chill darkness,

their eyes brightened

in anticipation

of the arrival of a great moment

that would come with the dawn.

Ah-

the pure spirit of youth,

beautifully and powerfully

heralding the rise of a bright new

   day’s sun.
