Does looks matter or why dark is ugly? Here, I will not give the answers to both the questions as I want you to think about it and give your views on it.
It start at a very young age. Actually from the moment a child is born, we often see relatives making comparisons over skin color. It start in your own family but people don’t want to talk about it openly. We live with racism daily either in home or outside, racism not only in skin color but in physique, looks, caste, class etc., racism is a part of daily life thus it is a race over another, which regularly offer ascent to segregation and bias towards individuals in a view of their race or ethnicity.
In 2009, Kavita Emmanuel who is the founder of Women Of Worth, an Indian NGO launched a campaign “Dark Is Beautiful”. Which was not anti white but about inclusivity beauty beyond color.
Multi million people waste their all money to buy cosmetic creams, and invasive procedures such as skin bleaching, chemical peels, laser, treatment to look white because their mindset is that “a perfect life from perfect skin” but I think they are somehow right in a way because whether it is a home or any workplace people more prefer a lighter tone, as they are perceived as more attractive and beautiful according to our society who believe that and who else don’t want attention, love and care in their life, for this they take support of some cosmetic creams to look better which can harm their skin, but in a desperation to look better they forget their own natural beauty. In my point of view no one is ugly but everyone is different in their own way.
Sometimes, it’s sad that desperation of lighter skin tone is growing very speedy in India now, and the reason is the increasing of fairness creams In India such as fair and lovely and many more who misrepresent people to sell their products and in the race of get lighter skin tone people are encouraging these types of fairness creams.
At the end, I just want to say that yes I have a dark skin, and I am proud of it, because for me, dark is beautiful.
