How technologies have changed our lives?

Technology has become an indispensable part of our life. Technology has a great impact on our day to day activities. With the advent of computers, we tend to function in an altogether different way.  From the time we wake up in the morning to the time we retire on our beds, we use all the modern innovative gadgets and electronic equipment which has made our life simple and easier. Technology has immensely changed the way we perform our day to day chores.

The oven, toaster and the coffee-maker are well equipped to prepare a delicious breakfast for you with fewer efforts.  Washing those dirty pile of clothes and utensils makes you weary? Stop worrying, the washing machine and the dishwasher comes to your rescue and gets the job done within minutes. Cleaning the house seems to be a daunting task at times. Isn’t it? Now let’s consider the concept of the supermarket. Did it exist, 20 years back? People use to purchase groceries, vegetables, fruits from local vendors and shopkeepers. With the concept of supermarkets and hypermarkets, you will find all the things at one place. This enables you to make your purchases convenient without having you to travel to different places looking for your requirements and thus provides a pleasant shopping experience. The supermarkets have all the inventory details stored in the huge databases on their computers. When you go for billing, the cashier has to just scan the barcode of the item purchased by you, and all the details about the item such as unit price, quantity appears on the screen. Thus making the billing process easier and hassle-free for you as well as for the cashier. You can pay your bills through cash, credit or debit card or even through Paytm.  Paytm is a payment gateway or a mobile wallet for making and receiving payments.  How powerful the technology is!

Nowadays, you don’t even have to visit the supermarkets physically. All you have to do is just download an app like BigBasket or Grofers. Enter your personal details such as name, address, mobile number. Select the products in your shopping cart and make the payment. You get the groceries, vegetables, fruits delivered to your doorstep.

Technology has not only changed the way we function in our daily lives but it can also predict what choices we can make in the near future.  Yes, you heard it right. It is possible to predict our future moves through data analytics. Data Analytics is a vast field where the data is collected based on the present preferences of an individual and it is analyzed thoroughly to make future predictions. The data is analyzed with the help of various algorithms, also known as predictive analysis.

Undoubtedly, technology is a boon for us. But, the negative side of technology also exists. With the emerging e-book readers such as Amazon Kindle, we don’t resort to the physical books as we have a similar experience of reading a physical book and that too, at low costs. The fragrance of the pages of newly purchased books arranged on the shelves and the joy of reading it has vanished completely.

Technology has also disrupted our social life to some extent. We interact more with people on social networking sites. We feel a sense of pride on the basis of the number of likes we get on our updated profile picture on these social networking sites. But how many people like us in reality? The face-to-face interactions with our near and dear ones have diminished greatly due to these social networking sites and it has hampered our relationships.

The mobile phone has become our weakness. We can survive without food for a day but not without a mobile phone. It has become an addiction which is quite worst. Health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity has increased dramatically among the young population due to the excessive use of smartphones because the people are glued to the laptop and mobile phone screens most of the time, having no time for physical exercise.

Although the technology has brought many inventions for us to make our life easier but it has its own disadvantages too. It depends upon us to strike an equilibrium to lead a balanced life and not to be overwhelmed with the technological inventions. Sometimes, the manual efforts are worth a try as it gives some exercise to our muscles and the diseases stay at bay. For eg: You can walk your way towards a nearby grocery store rather than using a car. Technology has benefitted us in many ways but you make sure it doesn’t disrupt our well-being completely.
