The Bus

Once upon a time,

In a big city,

A young woman boarded a bus.

She was warm and kind,

With a baby bump,

Looked happy with no regrets.

She looked towards the passengers,

But no one seemed to notice,

So she looked at the ceiling instead.

She read the letters painted on the side,

‘this seat is reserved for elders’,

So She couldn’t sit there.

She looked at those seated,

They were young and cheerful

And didn’t seem to notice her.

She turned her face and read again,

‘this seat is reserved for the blind and physically handicapped’,

So she couldn’t sit there.

She looked at those seated,

They were healthy and beautiful

But seemed to be blind towards her.

And finally she noticed,

‘this seat is reserved for the mother and infant’,

But she wasn’t a mother yet.

So she looked at those seated,

They were young children

And no, they didn’t see her.

And suddenly the bus stopped,

The lady fell down.

Not knowing she wouldn’t wake up again.

And all those seated,

Looked at her speechless,

‘she should have held on’.
